The EOS C400 is capable of delivering premium visual capabilities with its RF mount in a compact body that combines portability and expandability.
This is the first Cinema EOS camera to feature a back-illuminated stacked full-frame CMOS sensor that functions in conjunction with the DIGIC DV 7. It is particularly well-suited for live production, media-reporting crews, and cinema and film production.
Exceptional image quality through the use of the back-illuminated stacked full-frame CMOS sensor.
*Recording is possible at up to 6K 60P (RAW) and 4K 120P. *When 4K 120P is selected in Super 35mm mode, the angle of view is cropped at approx. 6%.
Achieve crystal clear high definition 4K video with up to 6k readout oversampling*.
4:2:2 10-bit high-resolution recording is enabled through oversampling of the full-frame 6K sensor during 4K/2K movie recording.
*When using XF-AVC, XF-HEVC S, XF-AVC S recording, full-frame sensor mode, and frame rate of 60P/50P or lower.
High-performance subject detection is made possible by the deep learning-based EOS iTR 1 AF X algorithm, which works in tandem with the incredible speed, accuracy, and field of view of Dual Pixel CMOS AF II.
The EOS C400 can now detect human body2 and animal3 through the introduction of EOS iTR AF X.
1 Intelligent tracking and recognition.
2 When eyes, face, or head are hidden during AF tracking, the body is detected and tracking continues.
3 Detection of animals other than dogs or cats is not supported.
Get creative with the EOS C400's high quality 4:2:2 10-bit slow motion videos - up to 2K 180p and 4K 120p*.
* When 4K 120P is selected in Super 35mm mode, the angle of view is cropped at approx. 6%.
The Canon Log 2 maintains details in medium-to-dark areas and exhibits characteristics comparable to film. Additionally, it allows for linear output across a wider range, exposure control with minimal colour shifts, and detail preservation during post-editing. This Log works exceptionally well with production settings (like film production) created based on Cineon-Log.
This log is well-known for being user-friendly, enabling users to create videos with as little as basic tone adjustments through grading. Tightening the dark areas reduces the noise in the dark areas without compromising a broad dynamic range.
Depending on the scene, users can manually select three base ISO levels from low to high. The camera's Auto Selection feature switches between the three base ISO levels to one with a higher S/N ratio while maintaining dynamic range.
Different base ISO settings based on scene brightness (ISO sensitivity) reduce noise in videography.
When output to an LCD monitor or with MON. / SDI / HDMI, images are cropped to an angle of view of 2.39:1 after desqueezing.
The magnification ratio can be selected from OFF, 2x, 1.8x, or 1.3x in the menu (when shooting at 4K 60/50P, the desqueezing display is at 2K for MON. / SDI / HDMI). Data recorded for metadata can be configured separately from the magnification ratio.
Dual slots for CFexpress and SD cards are included. This enables simultaneous recording of XF-AVC, XF-HEVC S, XF-AVC S, and proxy data to an SD card while recording 6K RAW internally to a CFexpress card. This allows better file management for more efficient and faster video editing.
*Cinema RAW Light can only be recorded to a CFexpresscard.
*Slow motion recording may not allow simultaneous recording, depending on frame rate.

The camera offers a touch-based menu for recording features and LCD brightness settings, providing the same feel as standard horizontal shooting. This feature is particularly useful for producing video for smart devices or digital signage. The camera also supports menu settings and LCD brightness adjustments in vertical shooting, providing an easy-to-read layout similar to standard horizontal shooting. Various settings and controls can be operated with touch.
*compared with EOS C500 Mark II
The EOS C400 can support live event operations within its camera body, making live shoots stress-free.
The camera body has Ethernet and G-LOCK/SYNC/RET terminals, which allow for return and tally inputs without the need for an expansion unit.
With the new SRT protocol support, the EOS C400 makes live streaming of news programmes and video websites a breeze.
This feature seamlessly integrates into the existing video production and editing workflows of broadcasters and other sites, enhancing their capabilities.
Unreal Engine / Adobe After Effects plugin provided.
The RF mount system’s high-speed communications enable real-time metadata output with output recordings. Movie file metadata used for compositing can be imported into a virtual production app via plugin.
Supports 180°VR shooting just by attaching a VR lens.
The camera is compatible with the RF5.2mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE lens. Canon assists with the workflow from shooting to editing by providing a plugin for Adobe Premier Pro and software for VR.
The RF mount's compact and lightweight nature is attributed to its short back focus. The utilisation of RF lenses delivers highly expressive and high-quality imaging. The RF mount's high-speed communication capabilities allow for better-coordinated control of the camera and lens IS to produce powerful image stabilisation.
PL and EF lenses can be fully utilised with an adapter:
*mount adapters are optional accessories
