RF35mm f/1.4L VCM

Cinematic Wide

The first RF lens to feature the Voice Coil Motor (VCM) in addition to a Nano USM, the RF35mm f/1.4L VCM results in ultra-fast and incredibly accurate autofocus performance that operates silently, making it ideal for video recording. Filmmakers can unleash their creativity using the physical iris control.

Apart from performing exceptionally well in low light, the large aperture of f/1.4 and circular 11 aperture blades will give you that sought-after cinematic bokeh.

Exceptional
Image Quality

The RF35mm f/1.4L VCM delivers superior image quality throughout the image, including the edges, with its innovative design and optical configuration made possible by the RF mount.

VCM & Nano USM

A Voice Coil Motor (VCM) is an actuator that converts electric into kinetic energy using magnetic field. The RF35mm f/1.4L VCM is the first RF lens to use a VCM. It drives the heavier focusing lens group, while the Nano USM drives the floating lens.

These two work together to deliver ultra-fast and incredibly accurate AF. The focusing is also very smooth and quiet, making it perfect for video recording.

Aspherical Lenses

By reducing spherical aberration and image distortion, the two glass-molded (GMo) aspherical lenses are able to produce images of superior quality.

UD Lenses

This lens uses two single Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) lens elements with low refraction and low dispersion, reducing axial and magnetic chromatic aberrations to deliver higher image quality.

Air Sphere Coating

Air Sphere Coating (ASC) uses an anti-reflection technology that suppresses ghosting and reduces flare to deliver clear and high contrast images even when shooting backlit subjects.

Mesmerising Bokeh

The large aperture of f/1.4 produces beautiful bokeh. It also enables a faster shutter speed or lower ISO for low-light conditions. In addition, its unique 11-blade circular aperture creates a cinematic out-of-focus effect.

Superior Quality Up-Close

Capture exceptional edge-to-edge image quality even when shooting close-ups with up to 0.18x magnification at minimum focusing distance of just 0.28m.

Focus Breathing Correction

When recording videos, a typical phenomenon that occurs is a 'pulsing effect' in the footage whereby the camera's angle of view changes slightly during focus racking. The RF35mm f/1.4L VCM's floating focus control suppresses breathing optically in all focus positions, resulting in outstanding video quality with any EOS R camera bodies.

Intuitively
Designed

With a compact size of 99.3mm in length and 555g in weight, the RF35mm f/1.4L VCM is smaller and 27% lighter than the EF35mm f/1.4L II USM.

Iris Ring

The RF35mm f/1.4L VCM has an iris ring for controlling aperture physically on the lens. Similar to a cinema lens, the user can enjoy light, smooth torque and intuitive control over aperture and exposure adjustment.

Lens Function Button

A customisable Lens Function button on the body of the lens allows you to instantly access various functions related to AF, exposure, connectivity, and more.

Customisable Focus Ring

The lens has a dedicated focusing ring for manual focus that you can also use as a customisable control ring for various functions when paired with compatible cameras.

*dedicated control ring function is disabled if focus ring is used as control ring

Control Ring

Canon's distinctive knurled control ring allows you to control AF area, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, ISO, white balance, colour temperature and even Picture Style.

Rear Filter Holder

You can add a sheet-type filter behind the lens through the detachable rear filter holder and further stack other filters on the front of the lens to expand your creative expression.

Dust & Drip Resistance

The lens has a dust- and drip-resistant construction that keeps dust and water droplets out.

Fluorine Coating

A smudge-resistant fluorine coating is applied on the front lens, preventing moisture and oil from sticking.
