Canon expands hybrid ecosystem with EOS R50 V, PowerShot V1, RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ power zoom lens, and ultra-wide RF 20mm f/1.4L VCM prime lens


SHAH ALAM, 27 March 2025 – Canon Marketing Malaysia (“Canon”) today unveiled a suite of cutting-edge, video-focused products designed to empower the creative visions of content creators and hybrid shooters. The launch includes three innovative imaging solutions—the EOS R50 V interchangeable lens camera, PowerShot V1 compact video-centric camera, and RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ power zoom lens—alongside the RF 20mm f/1.4L VCM ultra-wide-angle hybrid prime lens, further expanding Canon’s comprehensive ecosystem built to support creators in producing high-quality stills and videos with ease and versatility.

Elevating Video Creation with the EOS R50 V and PowerShot V1
The EOS R50 V is a powerful interchangeable lens camera featuring a 24.2MP APS-C sensor, akin to the Super 35mm sensor used in cinema cameras. Designed for creators seeking enhanced operability and cinematic versatility, it includes professional-grade features such as Canon Log 3, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, uncropped oversampled 4K 30p video, 4K 60p cropped video, Full HD 100p/120p slow motion, and 10-bit HDR PQ/HLG recording. The EOS R50 V also introduces features typically seen in Canon’s Cinema EOS line, including Custom Picture profiles, LUT support, and pro-level audio inputs.
A key highlight is the EOS R50 V’s video-centric design, including a movie-focused mode dial, zoom lever compatibility, livestreaming shortcut, and optimised ergonomics for vertical shooting. It is also compatible with Canon’s new RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ power zoom lens, enabling seamless power zooming for dynamic video production.
The PowerShot V1 , Canon’s first all-in-one compact camera tailored for video, features a 22.3MP 1.4-inch type sensor—approximately twice the size of typical 1-inch sensors in compact cameras. Compact yet powerful, the PowerShot V1 offers a versatile 16-50mm equivalent zoom, internal cooling fan for extended livestreaming, 3-stop ND filter, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, and built-in Smooth Skin mode and 14 colour filters for instant visual styling.
Rich Creative Tools and Seamless Connectivity
Both cameras are equipped with Movie Digital IS, a Movie for Close-Up Demos mode, advanced autofocus, and intuitive livestreaming capabilities. Users can connect directly via USB-C to a PC for webcam use or pair with the Camera Connect app via Bluetooth for remote control and content sharing. Additionally, the EOS R50 V supports UVC/UAC 4K 60p livestreaming and the Live Switcher Multi-Camera Mobile app for multi-angle streaming setups.

RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ: Canon’s First RF Lens with Built-In Power Zoom
The RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ is Canon’s first RF-mount lens featuring a built-in power zoom. Compact and lightweight (approx. 6cm long, 181g), it enables smooth, servo-controlled zooming via the camera’s zoom lever or the lens ring—ideal for dynamic video shooting and product demonstrations. With up to 5 stops of Optical IS and enhanced 5-axis Movie Digital IS, it offers stable shooting even without a gimbal. The RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ also enables remote zoom control via the Camera Connect app, making it perfect for solo creators.
With a 22.4mm wide-angle view and 0.38x maximum magnification at its tele end, the lens is suitable for vlogging, tight close-ups, and versatile shooting scenarios.
RF 20mm f/1.4L VCM: Ultra-Wide Prime Lens for Hybrid Shooters
Rounding off the launch is the new RF 20mm f/1.4L VCM, the fourth and widest member in Canon’s hybrid f/1.4L VCM prime lens lineup. With a 20mm focal length, large f/1.4 aperture, and VCM-powered AF system, the lens delivers dramatic perspectives, low-light flexibility, and fast, near-silent autofocus for both stills and video.
The RF 20mm f/1.4L VCM also includes advanced video-friendly features such as focus breathing suppression, clickless iris ring, and cinema lens-style rotation direction. It’s the first in the series to feature BR optics, ensuring exceptional image quality across the frame with minimal chromatic aberration. Coupled with ASC and SWC coatings, it suppresses flare and ghosting—ideal for architecture, astrophotography, and high-resolution video production.
